Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs)
Air source heat pumps extract heat from the outside air in a similar way that a fridge extracts heat from it's inside. They work even if the outside temperature falls as low as -15° C.
Heat pumps have some impact on the environment as they need electricity to work, but the heat they extract from the air is constantly being renewed naturally. The extracted heat warms radiators or underfloor heating systems in your home.
How air source heat pumps work
Heat from the air is absorbed at low temperature into a fluid. This fluid then passes through a compressor where its temperature is increased, and transfers its higher temperature heat to the heating and hot water circuits of the house. The heat transferred can be three or four times larger than the electrical power consumed, making heat pumps a very efficient form of heating.
Like any heating system, heat pumps work more effectively in properties with high levels of thermal efficiency. So where possible you should install cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and double glazing, before installing a heat pump.
Service and Maintenance
Mitsubishi Electric recommend an annual system service by an Accredited Ecodan Installer to ensure the unit is working safely. Our annual heat pump system service price for domestic properties is £225 plus VAT.
